Esta Nota Técnica tem por finalidade esclarecer aos gestores municipais sobre os conceitos do desmatamento, suas consequências e os principais instrumentos legais relacionados. Também visa informar sobre as novas metas brasileiras determinadas durante o Acordo de Paris (COP21) sobre mudanças climáticas. Em suma, busca-se atualizar os gestores municipais quanto às transformações na Amazônia induzidas pela continuada destruição florestal.

Cabe ressaltar que a conservação de florestas está intimamente ligada com a manutenção de serviços ambientais, que são importantes para a manutenção da qualidade de vida da população e a produção agropecuária.
