A terceira edição do boletim Amazônia em Pauta analisa como a dinâmica de desmatamento nos Estados de Mato Grosso e Pará, entre os anos 2008 e 2012, foi afetada pela implementação do Cadastro Ambiental Rural (CAR), importante instrumento de monitoramento do novo Código Florestal, que armazena informações ambientais sobre imóveis rurais, possibilitando o controle, planejamento ambiental e econômico, e combate ao desmatamento em todo território nacional.

The expansion and intensification of soya bean agriculture in southeastern Amazonia can alter watershed hydrology and biogeochemistry by changing the land cover, water balance and nutrient inputs. Several new insights on the responses of watershed hydrology and biogeochemistry to deforestation in Mato Grosso have emerged from recent intensive field campaigns in this region.
