A Amazônia brasileira pode ser atingida, em breve, por uma “tempestade perfeita”. Uma eventual interação entre a pandemia da covid-19 e o aumento do desmatamento seguido do fogo terá potencial de provocar mais mortes na região. A temporada de seca e queimadas, que se inicia em final de junho na região, pode ser igual ou mesmo mais intensa do que aquela que atingiu a região em 2019. Nós estimamos que, para o período de janeiro de 2019 a abril de 2020, uma área de 4.509 km2 de florestas derrubadas aguarda pela queima.
