O Projeto Assentamentos Sustentáveis (PAS), que o IPAM coordenou entre 2012 e 2017, promoveu uma agricultura familiar capaz de enfrentar um futuro de clima alterado, mas sem deixar de ser próspera e atraente, especialmente à nova geração de produtores. O projeto demonstrou que a combinação feliz da inovação tecnológica, da assistência técnica adequada e da incorporação de ações para o aumento de renda baseadas no uso sustentável das florestas, além da compensação por serviços ambientais prestados, configura a base de um novo modelo de produção familiar na Amazônia.

Os resultados que são apresentados nesta obra fornecem farta documentação de que essa nova agricultura familiar rentável e social e ambientalmente saudável é possível e capaz de colocar os agricultores familiares amazônicos como agentes-chave para o equilíbrio climático da região e do país. Reconhecer e compensar o papel desses brasileiros e brasileiras cultivadores incansáveis de esperança é o nosso dever.
