Na sequência das discussões promovidas pelo GT Clima do FBOMS, o debate sobre florestas e mudança climática no Brasil se intensificou ainda mais, após a realização do workshop promovido pelo IPAM em Belém (2000) sobre a inclusão do desmatamento evitado no mecanismo de desenvolvimento limpo (MDL).
