With experience in strategic projects related to industrial development, research, and technology, he participates in the development of studies and initiatives focused on the bioindustry and bioeconomy in the Amazon.

In collaboration with IPAM (Amazon Environmental Research Institute), he contributed to the production of the book“Bioindustry in the Amazon: Contributions to Sustainable Development in the Legal Amazon.” The publication compiles data, analyses, and proposals to strengthen sustainable production chains across the nine states of the Legal Amazon.

In an interview with the IPAM newsletter, Ricardo discusses the challenges of the Amazonian bioindustry, the process of developing the publication, and the potential of the bioeconomy for value creation, productive integration, and territorial development in the region.

What is the main objective of the book “Bioindustry in the Amazon”?

The book aims to showcase the scale of the Amazonian bioindustry and create opportunities. We want to strengthen production chains, expand markets, and stimulate new investments in the region. The publication also seeks to connect different actors in the Amazonian ecosystem, such as cooperatives, research institutes, development agencies, and local enterprises.

What does the survey reveal about the bioindustry in the Legal Amazon?

The study identified more than 11,000 formal enterprises linked to the bioindustry in the Legal Amazon. This number demonstrates that there is already a structured economic base in the region, but with the potential to increase integration among production chains and add more value to Amazonian products.

How can strengthening production chains generate more value for the Amazon?

When different enterprises begin to operate in an integrated manner, the added value of products increases. According to him, the connection between producers, processing, and marketing strengthens the entire production chain and expands economic opportunities in Amazonian territories.

In addition to the physical book, what other products were developed based on the research?

The initiative also resulted in an interactive BI, which allows access to specific information about the enterprises mapped in the Legal Amazon. The platform facilitates searches by state, sector, and type of enterprise linked to the bioindustry.
