The newsletter “Um Grau e Meio” (One and a Half Degrees), produced by the Communication team at IPAM (Amazon Environmental Research Institute), was selected for the COP30 Solutions Barn, as part of the Task Force for Information Integrity on Climate Change. More than 217 proposals were submitted to the call, which approved 123 initiatives from 27 countries, including Brazil, Germany, India, Mexico, the United States, Argentina and Vietnam.
The selected projects will be presented at the Solutions Barn at COP30 in Belém in November, during the climate conference. The initiatives will also make up a virtual Solutions Bank created by the COP30 Presidency as a showcase for actions with positive impacts and which contribute to advancing the goals of the COP Action Agenda – including Goal 30, aimed at the integrity of climate information.
Launched in July 2025, the Mutirão invited actors from different sectors of society to present concrete actions to strengthen the quality and reliability of climate communication. This is the first time that information integrity has been included in the COP Action Agenda, at the initiative of the Brazilian COP30 Presidency, recognizing the importance of combating disinformation about climate change. Three years connecting people and the environment
Created three years ago, the Um Grau e Meio newsletter was born out of a project that sought to go beyond the traditional institutional format. The aim was to build an informative, plural and accessible space that connected science, politics and society. With themed editions and interviews with experts from different fields, the publication provides information on the main debates on the environment and climate in Brazil and around the world.
Published fortnightly on Mondays, Um Grau e Meio is free and can be read in around five minutes. Its readers are spread across several countries and work in sectors such as universities, governments, the third sector and private companies. To receive future issues, subscribe here!
For IPAM, the inclusion of “Um Grau e Meio” in the Solutions Barn reaffirms its commitment to producing quality, reliable and accessible content that integrates science, public policies and traditional knowledge. The initiative for the integrity of climate information, according to the institute, represents a step forward in promoting an informed, plural and inclusive public debate on climate change, strengthening evidence-based understanding.
“IPAM is delighted to be part of the COP30 Solutions Barn with the Um Grau e Meio newsletter. The integrity of climate information is key to containing the climate emergency, along with the implementation of adaptation and mitigation measures. By recognizing the power of communication in its Agenda for Action, the COP30 presidency reinforces the central role of journalists and communicators around the world in producing knowledge about climate change and ways of tackling this, humanity’s greatest challenge,” says Bibiana Garrido, IPAM’s Communication specialist and editor of Um Grau e Meio.
Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change
The Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change is an international coalition made up of UN (United Nations) organizations such as UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), the government of Brazil, six other countries – Chile, Denmark, France, Morocco, the United Kingdom and Sweden – and civil society. The main objective is to combat disinformation and practices that delay or compromise climate action, by promoting access to reliable and transparent information on climate change.
Through calls to action and concrete projects, the initiative seeks to ensure that public policies, business decisions and social debates are based on correct data, scientific evidence and transparency, contributing to effective and inclusive global climate action.
