IPAM (Amazon Environmental Research Institute) will have an active participation in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP28, between November 30th and December 12th, in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

The agenda of IPAM directors and researchers covers topics such as valuing forests; low-emission agriculture; the leading role of indigenous peoples in combating climate change; mitigation and adaptation; Brazil’s role in global climate discussions; and encouraging the transition of agriculture; among others.

“IPAM’s great contribution to the debate, which, presupposes the end of deforestation, is to create an economic model that allows prosperity, without having to deforest native forests”, says André Guimarães, executive director of IPAM.

During the conference, countries will debate their efforts to limit the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5ºC, an objective defined in the Paris Agreement. The Global Stocktake will be presented as guidelines, for example, for mitigation, adaptation and implementation. In addition, the viability of the Loss and Damage Fund and the gradual reduction in the use of fossil fuels.

“Due to the richness of its biomes, Brazil has solutions to humanity’s challenges regarding climate change. Hence the need for the country to be at the forefront of global climate discussions”, emphasizes André Guimarães.
