IPAM expresses its support for Chief Raoni and wishes the indigenous leader strength following the diagnosis of cancer in his digestive system.
Given Raoni’s age, his medical condition, and the risks associated with intensive treatments, medical teams have recommended palliative care to manage pain and other symptoms, prevent complications, and ensure adequate nutrition and hydration.
“We have always viewed Raoni as a symbol of resilience, and that is what he continues to demonstrate to us, even at such a challenging time,” says André Guimarães, executive director of IPAM.
Today, he receives medical care and home care in Peixoto de Azevedo (MT), close to his family and his people. “Knowing that he is receiving all the necessary care is reassuring. This great Indigenous leader deserves the best possible quality of life,” comments Moutinho.
