With the aim of boosting the sustainable development of livestock farming in Pará, a training course was held on July 23-24 in Belém for state and regional leaders of FETAGRI (Federation of Rural Workers, Farmers and Family Farmers).
Through the Pará Sustainable Livestock program, the meeting presented the project “Achieving an Inclusive Vision for the Cattle Production Chain in Brazil” and its benefits.
With a total of 69 participants, the event was organized by FETAGRI with the support of IPAM (Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia), SEAF (Secretaria de Agricultura Familiar) and TNC (The Nature Conservancy).
“The activity allows FETAGRI’s national and regional leaders to have access to accurate information about the program, resulting in multipliers who can engage family farmers who work within the sustainable livestock chain to join the program and contribute to sustainable development,” says Edivan Carvalho, IPAM’s coordinator in Pará.
Ângela de Jesus, a family farmer and secretary for administration and finance at FETAGRI Pará, was at the meeting. “Pará’s Sustainable Livestock program has a set of actions that bring economic, social and environmental improvements to family farmers who are in the field,” she said.
“It’s one of the best public policies for family farming because it brings traceability to cattle and, along with that, land and environmental regularization,” says José Josineis Oliveira dos Santos, coordinator of FETAGRI’s southern region and one of the participants in the event.
