Casa Balaio, a historic mansion in the heart of Belém, will be the home of IPAM (Amazon Environmental Research Institute) this Thursday (13th). A series of parallel events are scheduled throughout the day.
In the year of COP30, IPAM is celebrating its 30th anniversary and is sharing its knowledge of climate change, fire management, adaptation, forests, cities, the Amazon and the Cerrado with the public.
In addition, the venue will host this year’s Proteja Talks, which will debate the use of traditional fire in times of change.
Visitors will also be able to buy socio-biodiversity products, in a partnership with Assobio, an association that brings together small and medium-sized businesses whose production chain and impact strategy are based on the Amazon and its bioeconomy.
There will also be a talk about the TransCerrado, a scientific expedition on two wheels, with the presence of Joab Marques, an ultracyclist who pedaled from São Paulo to Belém.
Throughout the day there will also be a Cine IPAM, with audiovisual productions from the institute such as the award-winning mini-documentary “O Chamado do Cacique: herança, terra e futuro”.
Casa Balaio is part of IPAM’s history. Between 2001 and 2010, the institution operated in the mansion. Come and take part in this dive into the past, the presentation of the present and discussions that will define the future of the planet.
