Five cooperatives benefited from workshops held by IPAM (Amazon Environmental Research Institute) in four municipalities in Pará between March 18 and 28. With a focus on improving management, the training sessions covered governance, leadership, administrative and financial management, as well as marketing.
Each workshop lasted two days and participants had access to a handout on participatory management. Thaynara Cavalcante, IPAM’s research analyst, explains how the training helps production in the state:
“By providing training in governance, the workshops contribute directly to the autonomy and development of cooperatives, making them more resilient and prepared for the challenges of the market. In addition, this process strengthens the spirit of cooperation and the exchange of experiences between participants, generating a positive impact not only for the cooperatives, but for the entire community.”

Lucimar Souza, IPAM’s Director of Territorial Development, details the importance of strengthening the management of enterprises:
“In addition to supporting the creation of cooperatives that can benefit from and market family farming products more efficiently, it is also necessary to support the management process of these businesses. The directors of cooperatives need to have knowledge of labor legislation, procedures for purchases and acquisitions, among other topics linked to management and good business. Maintaining the business and guaranteeing profits requires professionalism and ongoing training.”
The workshops are part of the activities of the Sustenta and Inova projects and are supported by the European Union and NORAD (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation).
