IPAM (Amazonia Environmental Research Institute) welcomed a delegation from China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment to its office in Belém on Thursday 14th to discuss COP30 and partnerships.
For Lucimar Souza, IPAM’s Director of Territorial Development, the occasion strengthens institutional ties with the Asian country. “The Brazil-China relationship is fundamental for us Brazilians, both in trade terms and in environmental matters, especially given the challenges facing the Amazonia and the Cerrado. IPAM recently went on a mission to China, where we signed research agreements, so it’s a great time to expand partnerships.”
Yang Jun, head of the Chinese delegation to Brazil and director of the department, values the strengthening of connections between the two countries. “We are very grateful for the opportunity to meet with IPAM and hope that the relationship will continue, with new partnerships in environmental education, for example.”

The group is part of the Chinese Ministry’s Environmental Education and Communication Centre, one of the bodies responsible for organizing the Chinese pavilion and logistics. At COP29, the space was one of the most visited: according to the organizers, it received more than 20,000 people throughout the event.
COP30 will take place in the capital of Pará from November 10 to 21. In a statement issued last week, IPAM praised the conference being held in the Amazon.
