George Woodwell

Ecologist and founder of the Woodwell Climate Research Center, he was a pioneer in climate science studies. A former advisor to IPAM, he initiated and led numerous ecological and climate research programs, laying critical foundations for today’s climate science. For his role in the creation of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), he was recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. He passed away at the age of 95 in June 2024.
