It is with sadness that IPAM (Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia) received the news of the accident on the BR-153 highway in Porangatu (GO), involving buses carrying students from UFPA (Federal University of Pará) to take part in the UNE (National Union of Students) Congress at the Federal University of Goiás on Wednesday (16).

In one of the vehicles that wasn’t hit was an intern from IPAM’s Altamira (PA) office, who was uninjured and is doing well. IPAM hopes that the rescue of the rest of the injured will be successful and extends its condolences to the families and friends of the students and Ademilson Militao de Oliveira, a driver for UFPA for nine years, who were victims of the tragedy.
