IPAM (Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia) congratulates ISA (Instituto Socioambiental) on its 31st anniversary, celebrated today, April 22. Combining a social perspective with environmental conservation, ISA has developed and continues to develop a series of projects dedicated to environmental conservation and the protection of indigenous peoples and traditional communities.

“Thirty-one years ago, during Rio 92, one of the most important organizations dedicated to protecting our ancestry was born: the ISA. Fortunate is the country that can count on the strength and determination of an institution like this. At IPAM, we will always remain partners and aligned in our common purpose of building a better and fairer world for everyone,” says André Guimarães, IPAM’s executive director.

Together, IPAM and ISA have already led several initiatives that have benefited the protection of the Cerrado and the Amazon. These include PROTEJA, a multimedia library of content on protected areas that has already accumulated over a thousand pieces of content.

The Forest Code Thermometer, a platform that monitors compliance with the Native Vegetation Protection Law, providing information on vegetation cover, was also developed in partnership between ISA, IPAM and others.

In addition, together with other organizations, the institutions promoteda consultation on the EU-Mercosur agreement with indigenous and traditional organizations, collectives and communities in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The meetings generated a series of interviews and a mini-documentary as part of the Amazoniar project.

Another contribution that involved the two institutes was the creation of the Sustainable Production Territories Tool, an initiative aimed at guiding commodity producers in Pará and Mato Grosso in conducting strategies that avoid deforestation. The document later inspired the Sustainable Territories platform, created by the government of Pará.
